Cinder: Book One in the Lunar Chronicles ~ Marissa Meyer
Cinder, a partial cyborg, mans a small mechanic shop in the crowded market center of New Beijing. Constantly hiding from the public who so heavily discriminate against people who aren't entirely human, she is careful to keep her exposed mechanics away from society's critical eye. One fateful day Cinder encounters the Prince who lives sectioned away from a disease ridden city and her life falls into a drastic roller coaster of confusing events. As she becomes closer to a royal who can never discover her secret a target quickly finds its way to her back. Interstellar peace hinges on the Princes decision and Cinder finds herself caught in the middle of a very dangerous battle. One that could have fatal consequences.
The book keeps a lot of the same elements that the original Cinderella story has. Cinder still lives with a hateful stepmother who can't wait to be rid of her and two step sisters who aren't sure whether or not to like her or hate her. Marissa Meyer captures a love story wrought with difficulty and lies, at points you're unsure of whether you sympathize with Cinder or dislike the choices she makes. Cinder guides you through an emotional self discovery that will have you standing in line for the next book.
